“Let food be thy medicine and medicine by thy food” (Hippocates)
Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy adopts a functional medicine approach to identify and address imbalances within the body which may lead to symptoms or sub-optimal health. To achieve this all systems of the body and their interconnectivity are considered.
An initial consultation usually lasts approximately 1.5 hours and involves the practitioner taking a detailed case history of the patients’ medical history, family medical history, health of each system of the body, symptoms, current diet and lifestyle and a short physical examination. The practitioner will then talk the patient through a detailed plan consisting of nutrition and lifestyle advice, natural supplements and herbs (if appropriate) and sometimes some functional tests may be recommended to explore the issue in more detail. A written plan is then sent to the patient within 48 hours. Follow up consultations usually take place on a monthly basis and last approximately 30-45 minutes. During these sessions progress is monitored and new recommendations are made to support continued improvement.
Nutritional Therapy can be used to help address many conditions, including IBS, hormonal imbalances, depression, inflammation, allergies, toxicity, weight management, skin conditions, lack of energy and poor sleep. It is also extremely powerful in improving a person’s overall well-being and reducing the risk of developing chronic disease in later life.
