Psychotherapist/Counsellor & Mindfulness Practitioner
I am a qualified psychotherapist /counsellor working with adults, young people and children. Along with my private practice I work in a variety of settings such as primary and secondary schools. I have seventeen years’ experience in the education sector.
I work integratively, which means I use different approaches from the major therapeutic models to suit your needs. Counselling is a good way of discovering what issues might be affecting you and I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to explore these.
I can help with difficulties such as depression, all types of anxiety and stress including OCD, phobias and PTSD, anger, family issues, low self-esteem, self-defeating behaviours such as self-harm, sexuality and relationships. This includes any other issues that arise which affect a lot of people in the course of their lives.
My work with children and young people is age appropriate taking into consideration their stage in life and developmental processes which are involved. I have an extensive knowledge base regarding the nature of childhood and adolescent development and my counselling approach specifically parallels their developmental stage. Younger children are encouraged to express themselves in a non-verbal way using a range of art, stories and creative methods.
I have a teaching qualification in Mindfulness and provide one-to-one sessions and group work in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) as recommended by the NHS (NICE Guidelines), where I predominantly work to reduce stress and promote psychological wellbeing. My continuing professional development is at Bangor and Oxford Universities.
I am a member of both the BACP (British Association of Counsellor and Psychotherapists) and the NCS (National Counselling Society).
